Storyteller Rooted in Community
Hi! My name is Melekte (Melie) Yohannes Hailemeskel. I’m a graduate student at the University of Southern California pursuing a Master of Science in Journalism. I’m from Las Vegas, Nevada, where I began my journey in leadership as Chair of the Nevada Youth Legislature.
At USC, I serve as a multimedia journalist and producer at Annenberg Media, where I report, produce, and edit stories. I’m also the founder and executive producer of Make It Happen, a digital media platform that celebrates trailblazers and amplifies culture. As a content creator, I’ve produced innovative social content that has collectively earned over 100 million views. My work has led to collaborations with brands including Samsung, HBO Max, SHEIN, Fabletics, PrettyLittleThing, and more.
I am passionate about amplifying underrepresented voices and effecting positive change through storytelling. My diverse experiences reflect a commitment to innovation and advocacy, qualities I am eager to bring to future endeavors in media and law.
Fun facts: I love to travel, listen to music, and read.
Multi-media Journalism
In my role as a producer at Annenberg Media, I specialize in storyboarding, videography, photography, editing, and emerging technologies, such as extended reality, to report and produce narratives that resonate deeply with audiences.
Brand Partnerships
Leading the Nevada Youth Legislature profoundly deepened my appreciation for the legislative process and its capacity to effect meaningful change. As Chair of the NYL, I represented over 42,000 youth constituents and co-signed Senate Bill 108, a pivotal piece of legislation aimed at reforming the juvenile justice system in Nevada.
